kindred spirits. I am always a savory bfast girl as well. Until i have a hankering for either granola or almond meal pancakes on the weekends. Now that you’ve mastered it, I think you’ll find it’s not just a bfast item, its the late afternoon snack, or something to seal the deal after a light dinner…pretty fabulous stuff and SO much better than store bought. I probably eat too much granola. Breakfast, snacks, pre-dinner, it’s all too applicable throughout the day. The act of making it is pretty satisfying too. Great idea! My parents live in Turkey and I frequently receive tremendous packages of dried figs, brown Turkish apricots and pistachios. I’ve been chopping them up and adding them to oats, sunflower, and hemp seeds to make my own mix of muesli. Ha! Looks like you and I are both on the same path, as I hadn’t made granola my entire life, until about a month ago, and now my partner and I am obsessed with homemade type. Yours looks awesome, and pretty close to mine (including the addition of cardamom!), though I don’t add coconut, and use dried cherries instead of currants. I also add an egg white to help bind the granola as I like my granola chunky. The questions I have, now that I have discovered the wonders of homemade granola is 1. What took me so long, and 2. Why the heck is store bought granola so FRIGGIN’ expensive?!?! Never going to buy it again, now that I can make it at home for a fraction of the price.

 My cousin once told me that looking at the photos on this site gave the impression that I live in a vast, high-ceilinged, impressively white space, filled with gauzy, billowing curtains, white furniture and polished wood floors. I’m amazed that you achieved such a brilliant pink color without using dyes! Way to go. I loved getting a peak at your kitchen yesterday. Mine is tiny, dark and ugly, which is why you never see it in my photos! As a foodie with a kitchen that is MUCH smaller, darker, and homelier …. how do you get such great pics? Where do you take the pictures and what do you do to get that bright, fresh look? I have no problems cooking delicious food in my closet-sized kitchen but it’s VERY difficult to get good pictures of it. AND, those pink eggs are amazing. They should be in a museum or something! You can keep the egg yolks centered in the whites by stirring the eggs as they cook. Just like how rolling a snowball around in your hands creates a symmetrical ball (sometimes), stirring the eggs as they cook keeps the yolk centered within the white! Thanks for the wonderful colorful documentation of seasonal foods. This week, It inspired me to theme my weekly dinner party as a seasonal spring celebration. I loved the look into your kitchen! It’s always so fun to see someone in their element. I’m a little embarrassed of my kitchen, myself! It’s small and dark and too narrow for two people to comfortably work in it, but we make due with what we have!  I have a hunch that there are some magical blues-obliterating qualities to citrus. Have you noticed how much they lift a person’s spirits? I have. The bruleed citrus reminds me of my Grandma’s broiled grape fruit in the mornings. She always could pick the most juicy and sweet grape fruit. By far my favorite part about winter. Ooooh honey cardamom yogurt. Why haven’t I thought of that? Sounds fancier than my honey and cinnamon yogurt…I’ll have to give that one a go! Ever since Yotam Ottolenghi roasted grapefruit halves for London, I’ve been a slavish fan of cooking them (as opposed to just eating them raw and quartered). And a brulee with grapefruits sounds more than gorgeous really! Fancy brunch quality. I’m sure you’ve heard this a thousand time before…but your photography is great! Walks, podcasts, oatmeal, going out to dinner, getting off the internet (anything with a screen, really) – all things that are part of my taking care list too. I love this time of year too, despite the fact that it sometimes feels a bit shadowed by exams, research projects, and work. Grateful for it all though, it’s easy to when doing like you say – taking care through it all. Being alive and tasting it all along the way is so worth it. Happy Holidays to you, lovely lady. I’m a new reader to your blog. It’s lovely. I just made this recipe this morning & it was delicious! Thank you so much for sharing it. It’ll definitely become a breakfast staple in my home. {The only thing I would change is the salt content. It tasted a bit too salty to me. Maybe next time, I’ll cut it by half??} |
