 There is something so refreshing about the color green. Thinking about this color throughout the week, and going to the markets looking for spring greens – not winter kales and collards or anything in that wintry family, mind you, but these delicate first greens of spring, was a calming, almost meditative, affair. Can I ask about your photographing techniques? i just saw your kitchen tour on theKitchn and you mentioned having north facing windows and a lack of lilght. All of your photos are so bright and airy…how do you achieve this? i am forced with a kitchen that has no walls with windows…it’s in the middle of the house and I am always struggling with the lighting!  Something about pink right about now, on the cusp of spring, feels so exuberant, optimistic, and so much a celebration of the season before us. I love how it creeps into the most unsuspecting of produce: we never call those potatoes pink, but they’ve got an undeniable magenta hue.  Napa cabbage Those dramatic purples from the first installation of the Color Studies are a tough act to follow. White does do something magical to space and to form. I love that you included your art in relation to the season’s whitest ingredients. The installation with the domestic interior dressed in saltwater paper mache reminds me of a work I saw years ago by Laura Kikauka. She created an atmospheric installation in which visitors enter a room that looks like it could be in the television show Hoarders; however, everything was white. At first the room was comforting with its white carpeted walls and fluffy chairs, but then on closer inspection one noticed that a lot of the objects were fetishistic and violent. This is a lovely series. Kudos on finding a way to combine the fine art impulse + cooking. I struggle with that! I wonder – do you photograph ingredients as you cook with them and then later group the pics in a series? I LOVE your new color studies series. Since purple is my favorite color, I thought that collection would remain my favorite, but there’s something so peaceful about white. Looking at your images, I can almost feel my heartbeat slow down.

I recently wrote a post all about cooking with color and funny enough, the recipe I featured was also an adaptation from Plenty. I think he seems to have a phenomenal grasp on cooking with color.
