 I first learned how to make potato pancakes in the kitchen of my German aunt. While these are by no means her traditional kartoffelpuffer, I am reminded of her kitchen every time I make them. Delicious! I made these last night for the first course of my family’s Hanukkah/Solstice/early Christmas celebration (served with homemade apple sauce and smoked trout pate) and they were a big hit.  When brussels sprouts first come into season, I could eat them almost daily, tossed with nothing more than olive oil, salt and pepper and pan-fried, and be happy for weeks. But when you have guests over, perhaps you want to jazz things up a little. BRUSSELS SPROUTS! We’ve probably talked about these lovely veggies before but I am definitely going to try them your way. we’re never allowed brussel sprouts in my house as my dad says that the taste reminds him of body odour and indian food. however, i do not fall into this category and shall i just say that when i’m next housesitting i will definitely include these on my feast of deliciousness. blog love :) xoxo Elizabeth - November 7, 2010 - 7:32 pm

 The weather is calling for a serious and thorough investigation of comfort food. It doesn’t get as cold here as, say, Maine, where it’s probably snowed a dozen times already, but this is relative. It feels cold.
